Here the spectral properties of the x-ray pulses, generated by imploding tungsten plasmas in wire array z-pinches, are calculated under the simplifying assumption that practically all the x-ray emission originates from the kinetic energy of the imploding plasma, and that the role of MHD effects by this final process of kinetic-to-radiation energy conversion can be neglected. The emerging x-ray spectra are calculated with the RALEF-2D code for two values of the pinching tungsten mass: one appropriate for the 5-MA Angara-5-1 machine in Troitsk, Russia, and the other for the 20-MA Z accelerator at Sandia, USA. The spectrum calculated for the Sandia case agrees well with the experimental data published by M.E.Foord et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 93 , 055002 (2004).
